SOLCAT
Solana put a cat in its own lab repo and walked away. 448 bytes. 32x32. Six colours. It's been sitting on the starter branch this whole time.
448 bytes of cat,
shipped by Solana's own lab
It isn't fan art and it isn't a redraw. It's a real file on a real branch of Solana's Token‑22 metadata lab — the course where developers learn to attach metadata to a token. They needed a picture. They drew a cat. Watch it come down the wire.

Five steps from
placeholder to ticker
The order matters here, so it's numbered. Nothing in this sequence was planned by anyone, which is the only reason it's worth telling.
A lab needs a picture, so somebody draws a cat
Token‑22 lets you hang metadata off a token — a name, a symbol, an image. To teach that, the lab has to actually mint something. A 32x32 cat gets drawn, saved as src/cat.png, and committed to the starter branch. Total effort: about four minutes. Total size: 448 bytes.
Every dev who took the course minted this exact cat
That's what the lab has you do. Clone the starter, run the script, watch a token appear on devnet with this cat bolted to it. Thousands of wallets, one image. Nobody stopped to look at it, because when you're learning Token‑22 the cat is not the point.
Somebody posts the path on Reddit
r/cryptocurrencymemes. No thread, no shill, just the file path and the observation that Solana has been carrying its own cat meme around in a teaching repo. It's the classic shape of an internet find — correct, unhyped, and about a year early.
Nothing happens, and that's the good part
The file doesn't move. Same branch, same 448 bytes, same six colours, same slightly startled face. No rebrand, no vectorised glow‑up, no committee. It just sits there being findable, which is the only kind of provenance that can't be manufactured later.
Out of the repo, onto the chain it was already minting to
$SOLCAT is that file and nothing else. Same pixels, same palette, no touch‑ups. Creator fees route to the dev. The cat finally gets a ticker instead of a devnet address.
Three links.
Two minutes.
It's on GitHub right now
Open the blob, hit raw, check the size. 448 bytes, exactly the image at the top of this page. You don't have to take our word for any of it.

Posted to r/cryptocurrencymemes well before there was any coin to sell: Solana's own cat meme, found sitting in the lab repo. We didn't invent the story. We just stopped ignoring it.
Read the thread →Creator fees go to the dev
The cat came out of somebody's work. Fees from this launch are routed back to the dev rather than sideways into a treasury nobody can see. That's the whole tokenomics section.

One contract. It ends in pump. Copy it from this box, not from a reply, not from a DM, not from a screenshot.
No presale, no allocation, no whitelist. There is no team wallet to ask about because there was never a round.
Fees route to the dev. The person whose repo this cat has been living in.
